I have a confession to make: I'm a chocoholic.
Dark chocolate, milk chocolate, chocolate cake, chocolate mousse, chocolate chip cookies — if chocolate is on the menu, it's usually my first choice.
Usually.
Then there's Magnolia Bakery.
With roots in New York City's West Village, Magnolia Bakery has become as much a part of the city's charm as yellow taxis and Central Park.
Every time I visit, I find myself standing in front of their beautiful display of cupcakes, surrounded by tempting chocolate options, and somehow I always choose the vanilla cupcake. Every single time.
There's just something magical about it. The cake is light, moist, and perfectly balanced with the icing. Not too sweet, not too heavy, and not piled so high that it overwhelms the cupcake itself. It's the perfect ratio of cake to frosting — a combination that many bakeries try to achieve but few truly master.
And then there are the colours.
Soft pinks, pale blues, cheerful yellows, delicate lavender swirls — the cupcakes look as beautiful as they taste. They bring out the child in me every time.
Of course, no visit to Magnolia Bakery would be complete without their famous Banana Pudding.
If you've never tried it, prepare yourself.
Layers of creamy vanilla pudding, fresh bananas, and vanilla wafers somehow come together to create something far greater than the sum of its parts. Rich without being heavy, sweet without being overpowering, it's one of those desserts that makes you understand immediately why people line up for it.
I always tell myself I'll just have a few spoonfuls.
I never do.
